Digital and drone photography, screen printing, laser engraving, traditional Chinese intangible cultural heritage.
Exploring the capitalism-driven urban change, new buildings always replace the old ones, which is not only the need of economic development, but also the loss of memory and history. Comparing myself to a paper kite, I use the paper kite, a Chinese intangible cultural heritage, as a medium to symbolize the drift and disappearance of forgotten history in the modern process. Through dance movements as part of body language and memory, I express the fragmentation and reconstruction of memory.
Based on the philosophy of existentialism, the work "Exist and existed" explores the meaning and value of individual existence in the midst of urban change. The paper kites represent the transient existence of individuals in the long river of urban history. I reflect on the flow and change of memory in time and space through the contrast of different time periods and spaces. This is a work of art that reflects both social and urban cultural themes from a personal emotional perspective, chosen from my hometown Datong, Shanxi Province, China. It explores the complex relationship between memory and space, history and modernity, individual and collective.
