# Project Description Talking About Elephant & Reimagining Castle Zirun Xu Summary Final work College London College of Communication Course MA Design for Social Innovation and Sustainable Futures Graduation year 2025 This project explores the diverse narratives of gentrification in Elephant and Castle through archival research and conversations with local stakeholders. It examines how different stories shape people’s perceptions of the same urban transformation, encouraging reflection on the notions of development and regeneration that dominate contemporary society. By questioning who benefits from such changes and what values guide them, the project challenges current models of social and spatial transformation. It asks: What should we prioritise in social change? Does economic growth necessarily lead to collective wellbeing? Should land even be a tradable property? Through these questions, the project invites people to reimagine a more caring and inclusive future city that values belonging, fairness, and shared prosperity. Final work Project Poster A project poster featuring a title, introduction, key regeneration “notions,” and images of Elephant and Castle. Narrative Cards A set of role-based cards that present the viewpoints of different stakeholders to show how narratives shape contrasting experiences of gentrification. Role-Playing Workshop A role-playing activity where participants adopt stakeholder identities to explore how gentrification impacts lives and to collectively imagine more caring future cities.
