# Project Description Fold and Flow ZI JIA ZHANG Summary Final work College London College of Fashion Course BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Menswear Graduation year 2025 ZI JIA ZHANG’s F/W25 menswear collection was inspired by early 20th-century Shanghai, a city defined by diversity, cultural fusion, and vibrant modernism. This collection captures the dynamic spirit of an era when East met West in fashion and athleticism. Zhang focused on the everyday garments seen on the streets, at sporting events, and within Shanghai’s social scene, blending these with Western menswear from the 1910s. A new aesthetic was found, fusing hints of traditional Chinese clothing with the sleek lines and functionality of Western sportswear. Silhouettes and details draw heavily from old photographs found in 20th-century Shanghai magazines, featuring portraits and snapshots of daily life and sports festivals. Fitted, minimalistic long sleeves, striped shirts, and knee-high socks combine with tailored vests, jackets and detachable collars to create a stylish form of functional elegance—reimagining basic sportswear pieces with a contemporary edge. Archival garments from this period also informed Zhang’s approach to silhouette and colour, while the faded tones and black-and-white imagery of these photographs guided the palette of black, white, cream, and grey.
