# Project Description Common Sky Zhouyang Jiang Summary Final work Awards Nominated | Maison/0 Green Trail Hi, I am Zhouyang (Aurora) Jiang, a multi-disciplinary interaction designer based in London, Auckland (NZ) and Shenzhen (CN) working at the intersection of ecology, technology, and participatory design. College Central Saint Martins Course BA (Hons) Graphic Communication Design Graduation year 2025 This interactive workshop invites participants to co-create an urban environment that supports both human needs and native UK birds. Through tactile play, storytelling, and digital feedback, users build cities while navigating real-time ecological consequences. The project explores how participatory design can spark new conversations around more-than-human futures. Centred on bird-human coexistence, I use interactive, participatory design to reveal how urban planning impacts biodiversity. Through an introductory tablet , an interactive building board , and a takeaway folder , participants move from understanding to action — engaging in playful yet informed decisions. The workshop makes ecological consequences visible and tangible, encouraging both awareness and agency. I approach design as a tool for systems thinking and action, blending tactile interaction with real-time digital feedback to provoke empathy, responsibility, and long-term thinking. In collaboration with the London Wildlife Trust, I hosted the workshop at Walthamstow Wetlands on 26 May and plan to run it again in June. Final work View Gallery View Gallery View Gallery Interaction Demo Video of the Building Board Through physical computation and the use of the game engine, I created an interactive building board with real-time on-screen urban bird simulation. The participants are using the provided physical blocks of different city forms, representing different city functions such as hospital and grassland. Different consequences are simulated on screen from the placement of the blocks on the physical building board. There are 20 types of blocks, and each has a different amount that reveals the real-world context. For example, there are five tall building blocks, and only one of them has bird-friendly patterned glass. To pass the game, participants need to place a required number of human infrastructure blocks and then aim to increase the bird population in order to achieve a higher score. Introductory Tablet An introductory application that brings participants into the narrative of birds, giving them prompts and scenarios and teaching how the physical building board works.
