This project aims to explore the contrasting architecture of Hong Kong and Hokkaido. Both regions share a common colonial history, both occurring in the 19th century. However, their urban landscapes have evolved over time. Hong Kong was influenced by British colonialism, while Hokkaido was influenced by Japanese imperialism. Although both are in Asia, the architectural styles and urban developments of the two regions are very different.

This difference forms the core of my exploration, using architecture as a lens to examine the lingering effects of colonialism on both regions and reflect on its wider impact on modern society.
