This Project focuses on the theme of gradually sharing nature with the public, moving step by step from public spaces to private ones. The design follows a progressive narrative from broad observation to intimate intervention, reflecting a commitment to sustainability and community well-being.
The project centers on the New River in Canonbury, Islington—a historic man-made canal over 400 years old that still supplies 8% of London’s water. Despite its public accessibility, this natural corridor has been neglected, and 17% of Islington’s residents lack access to green spaces, impacting community health.
This nature-based healing project uses the New River as a community connector, preserving existing activities while introducing new initiatives to activate the space. It aims to foster multisensory engagement with nature and build an inclusive, sustainable, and healthy community by exploring the links between biodiversity, health, and social well-being.
