# Project Description The Cord Between Us YUMAN MA Summary Final work College London College of Fashion Course BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development Graduation year 2025 This project explores the emotional evolution within the mother-daughter relationship, drawing upon my personal growth experience as both inspiration and framework. It investigates the shifting dynamics from early emotional dependence, through gradual distance, to a state of independent selfhood and responsibility. The project unfolds through two parallel lenses: emotion and structure. Inspired by the natural progression of intimacy and individuation, it examines how emotional connection can be translated into physical form. The female body serves as the medium through which this transformation is articulated. “Connection, tension, and wrapping” are used as structural metaphors to convey intimacy and safety within dependence. In contrast, layering and deconstruction reflect the emotional withdrawal and gradual formation of autonomy. These techniques build a formal language that mirrors the emotional transition from closeness to self-realization. The silhouettes are inspired by the forms of seed pods—natural containers that protect, release, and ultimately allow for independent growth. This botanical reference reinforces the cycle of holding and letting go, both emotionally and physically. Through this dialogue between structure and sentiment, the project becomes a reflection on vulnerability, strength, and the quiet transformation toward becoming one’s own.
