n my picture book, I use the life cycle of a beetle as a metaphor to express my personal

journey of growth. The stages from larva to pupa to fully-fledged adult beetle symbolize key

moments and milestones in my life. One of the most important ways we connect with others

is through communication, especially with family and friends. Parents and friends play a

crucial role in supporting us through our stages of growth.

Through this picture book, I want to convey the importance of communication in building and

maintaining relationships while reflecting on how these interactions have shaped my growth

    Final work

I use the life cycle of a beetle to show how we grow and change with the help of those around us.
I studied the rhinoceros beetle’s life cycle and used color and style inspired by artists like Van Gogh and Eric Carle to show my own growth.
The beetle’s changing light shows my journey from childhood joy to silence and strength during hard times.
The beetle’s pupal stage shows a dark time when I felt lonely, silent, and distant from my family.

    Research and process

In the beetle’s quiet pupal stage, I found strength through silence and self-reflection.
