College London College of Fashion Course BA (Hons) Fashion Pattern Cutting Graduation year 2025 I was inspired by the contrast between hiding as a boy and hiding as a man. In particular, playing a game about hiding as a kid and being trapped in the rules of the workplace and society as an adult. As the concept of ‘kidult‘, China's unique growth background makes this concept particularly evident in Chinese boys. They are usually required to suddenly shift from a dependent role to a caring one when they reach adulthood, which forces them to hide their childlike side under social pressure. Hence, taking them as the target group, I did some visual research and questionnaires. I focused on the contrast of body movement, that is, active movement with happiness and pressured posture. The different colour and style choices of the daily outfit. In this process, I was inspired by the artworks of Erwin Wurm and the element of the fold. Furthermore, I did some experiments where different fabrics were placed over the human body in the form of a box. That is reflected in my research, and particularly the concept of how a man is trapped and hides themselves. For the design development, the key elements from my research were highlighted, like wrapping, twisting, stretching, angled fold, and gusset. Also, I used part pleats to create the angled shape as the detailed development. For the choice of fabric colour, print development was made to reflect a colourful childhood. Meanwhile, the use of different textured black fabrics that dominate the design responds to the daily outfit of an adult male.
