This project explores how emotion can be generated and communicated through material communication rather than language. Using clay as a medium, participants in a call-and-respond workshop shape, feel, and exchange emotions—particularly vulnerability—through touch and form. Each clay piece becomes a data-object, carrying and recording embodied emotional experience. Through qualitative and quantitative analysis, the project visualises the flow of emotion between people and materials. Ultimately, it treats emotion as a form of embodied data, positioning material communication as a shared sensory and relational experience that transcends language.

The shape of vulnerability

This acrylic installation transforms emotional data collected from participatory clay workshops into a physical archive. Layered translucent panels visualise the shapes of vulnerability, allowing light to reveal subtle textures and traces of touch. The work explores how emotion can be embodied and communicated through material presence beyond language.
