Xueke Zhu is a Chinese filmmaker based in London. Specialises in uncovering authentic narratives of marginalised communities through a cross-cultural lens, conveying multicultural perspectives via visual storytelling. Works focus on issues concerning migrant workers, disabled individuals, ethnic minorities, and the LGBTQ+ community. She favours using 'individual narratives' to reflect 'social issues'. Her work has been repeatedly shortlisted for international independent film festivals and humanities film exhibitions.

Lavender Fails to Bloo m is about Sheng and Hongwei, a hearing-impaired gay couple from Wuhan, China. To evade family pressure to marry, Sheng entered into a lavender marriage arrangement with a lesbian woman. This film portrays the realities of lavender marriage and the challenges faced by the hearing impaired in daily life.
