College UAL Creative Computing Institute Course MA Internet Equalities Graduation year 2025 This visuality map reveals how Douyin filters and algorithms shape which women become visible and which disappear. It interrupts the habitual gaze taught by the feed and reimagines a field where bodies are not ranked or optimised. The work invites viewers to see visibility as political and gaze as a conscious choice. Final work Seeing Gaze: A Feminist Visibility Map This visual map shows how Douyin shapes women's visibility through filters and algorithmic selection. It traces the quiet violence of a feed that decides which bodies rise into view and which sink into obscurity. The work breaks open the habitual gaze that the platform teaches, revealing how beauty is standardised, how desire is coded and how attention is steered. By reorganising the visual field, the map imagines a space where women are not ranked, sorted or optimised for consumption. It invites the viewer to recognise that gaze is a political act and that visibility is never neutral on platform-controlled screens.
