Have you ever wondered where all those discarded seashells go? Have you ever looked at your hands and thought—what if beauty could heal the ocean?

In a world where beauty comes at the cost of nature, this project asks: can we redefine what adorns us? Inspired by ocean pollution and the silent waste of seashells, Shellēve transforms marine biowaste into biodegradable, removable nail accessories. Each piece embodies the quiet resilience of marine life, reflecting the textures, colors and rhythms of the sea.

Born from the memory of growing up by the sea, this project honors discarded shells—once protectors of marine life—as symbols of renewal. From pollution to adornment, from waste to wonder—this project invites us to wear our care for the planet, right at our fingertips.

The ocean, once a boundless and thriving ecosystem, now faces an existential crisis due to human activities. Pollution—particularly plastic waste and chemical runoff—has disrupted marine biodiversity, leaving behind a fragile and fragmented world. As marine life struggles to adapt, their delicate existence tells a story of resilience and loss.

Material choose

Through comparison, this was found that this material is the most suitable. It has the highest hardness among all my test pieces, excellent toughness, and good water resistance. In addition, its surface texture is quite unique. Overall, this material is the most suitable for use in nail art materials.
