# Project Description A Wolf at the Door Xingxing Zhou Summary Final work A Wolf at the Door: A critical utopian satire of control, consumption and isolation through Vauxhall Pleasure Farm Addressing the severe economic pressures and escalating mental health crisis facing British farmers, this project uses worldbuilding methods to create a speculative perfect farm, an immersive sanctuary accessed through a local tavern. The project explores escapism as a mechanism for psychological compensation, revealing the moral void beneath the surface of modern society driven by technological efficiency and offering a reflection on the degradation of humans and nature into encoded data. The farm is a social engineering experiment in four zones: The House of Cards shows the hyper-atomised social isolation inherent in capitalism. The Circular Showcase breaks the illusion of community and empathy in society. The Auction House shows the absurdity of animals as a product in the posthuman. The Slippery Slope addresses assembly-line personality shaping and smoothing. As a critical utopia, this project interrogates control and commodification while exploring escapism as respite from psychological distress. Real-world crises are brought into surreal focus using a satirical speculative narrative as a critical lens .
