Summary

Final work

College Chelsea College of Arts

Course MA Fine Art

Graduation year 2023

I have created two wooden structures that make the two stones life-like in height, a structure inspired by the "mind controller" in Red Alert, a machine used to impose command instructions unconditionally on all living things, as do the two stones here, which appear to be elevated and connected to certain pipes and sockets, as if they have been implanted by some external force that imposes a powerful human will on all objects in the world.

The invention of AI technology, computer algorithms, and brain-computer interfaces all make me worry that if human technology continues to develop and our productivity continues to be liberated by machines, will we be able to feed data and information directly into the human brain? Will we eventually need the human body? Is it possible that we could evolve out of our bodies and into new humans living entirely by the agency of algorithms?

The two stones here are actually quite ordinary stones, and they may have been together for thousands of years, the kind of time that is normal for many natural objects that do not have the same dimension of time as humans.

In this work, I assume that one of these two stones has acquired the ability to think like a human being due to some kind of mechanical implantation, while the other is just an ordinary stone. The intelligent stone rightfully falls in love with the other stone as time goes on, has human emotions, and tries to speak to it, but the other stone does not answer, thus creating a gulf between them that can never be bridged. The Cyborg stone, on the other hand, believes that the other stone deserves to have the same intelligence and emotions as it does.

One of the questions that may arise from the development of machinery is whether, as humans and technology come together, another great divide will be created between humans themselves, transcending race, colour and gender.

(Artemis, the god of the moon. When he saw his own reflection in the water one day, he was so enchanted by his own shadow that he did not want to leave and eventually jumped into the water to die in order to be united with his own image.

While evolution is being discussed, we talk about destinations, love and death

Paranoia

Visual Weightlessness

Size: 64*94*5cm

Materials: oil and acrylic on wood, written and carved on a wooden frame

Year: 2022

"Visual Weightlessness" draws on traditional Indian miniature painting to create a painting style with the artist's own personal touch. I recorded the sound of a weak television set and transformed it into a musical score by encoding the sound, replacing the Urdu poetic text that is supposed to recount current events with a new 'period piece'. The juxtaposition of a television test chart and an illustration of an eye patient raises concerns about information and media overload in the zetabyte age.
