Inspired by my mother—a full-time housewife, I begin to stitch back the fragments of her hidden self. The sharp shoulders of the suits she once wore spoke of her passion and direction—now folded away, veiled by the silent rhythm of kitchenware.

Through embroidery and pleats, I mend what life has tried to conceal. In the seams, I place gemstones and shimmering beads, so that her folded light may shine again.

I want to tell her: You are not replaced by life, only temporarily set aside. Your worth has never expired, your brilliance has never faded.

With my hands, I sew back her strength, her beauty, and the fire that once burned within her—to remind her: she has never truly disappeared.

Research and process

Mood board & Colour board & Drawing

The inspiration came from my observation of my mother before and after she became a full-time housewife - this is the photo shows her character and power in a tiger- pattern suit with a gun, and now she is surrounded by kitchen tools and her personality is suppressed. So I wanted to re-sew the suppressed personality and strength of my mother through textiles, to find new possibilities for motherhood, and to find back their self-worth and power

Research & experiment

1.peony and porcelain

At my home in China, I found some blue-and-white porcelain-style tableware in the kitchen. They imitate traditional Chinese porcelain, but they are uniqueness and their cultural value are lost due to mass production. so they reflect how women with different backgrounds, careers, and dreams are often reduced to replaceable roles after becoming housewives.

I found that many of these reproduced kitchen tools have peony patterns. According to my research, the peony is a traditional symbol in blue-and-white porcelain. It represents women’s power, and strength

2.Power dressing

I got inspiration from my mother’s old photos from the 1990s. I selecting fashion items like suits, leather jackets, and shirts to represent the personality she once had. The layered folds in these clothes show how her identity was suppressed, and also symbolize the gap between who she was before and after becoming a housewife.

1.kitchen tools

Inspired by the replicated bowls I found in the kitchen, I did some structural experiments using bowls and spoons. Then I used white color fabric to shaped it like bowls, and added spoon elements based on the structure
