What the Body Knows, the Threads Reach to Mend

Due to my long-term experience with scoliosis traction therapy, I went through extended periods of boredom, pain, avoidance, and even self-objectification—constantly scrutinizing my own body. I also became aware that many areas of physical therapy often lack psychological support, which can lead to situations where the body is being treated, but the mind is left even more distressed.

During those sessions, I would often hear ambient nature music playing in the hospital. These sounds led me into moments of stillness and meditation. Inspired by that, I created a healing-oriented knitted installation that integrates natural elements with the soft, elastic, and cocooning qualities of knitwear.

This installation became part of a performative piece exploring emotional vulnerability and healing, which I later turned into a short film. Through this work, I call attention to the importance of caring for mental wellbeing alongside physical treatment. Just like plants, we need the capacity to self-repair—both in body and in spirit. I hope this project can offer a sense of healing to anyone who has experienced emotional or physical trauma.
