‘Imagined Hero’ presents a futuristic hero’s journey reimagined through a mythic lens. Central to this journey is the integration with the anima [the inner feminine image within the masculine psyche]. A process paralleling traditional rites of passage that mark the transition from boyhood to manhood. The slaying of the beast, an enduring motif in hero myth, becomes a confrontation with the anima only for the hero to ultimately integrate with it as part of the self. Exploring the mythologising of masculinity in Western culture and subverting the rituals of hero/ man.
The sculptural form fuses the organic with the artificial, presenting a snapshot of the process of individuation. This is materialised by drawing from sacred geometry, alchemical imagery and nature. The divine no longer descends from the heavens but emerges from synthetic flora and technology, hinting at the fluidity of identity and redefining the sacred by replacing the organic subtext with the artificial.
