# Project Description Varrshaa Ravindran Varrshaa Ravindran Summary Final work Hi I'm Varrshaa Ravindran, I'm from Chennai, India and a BA (hons) fashion buying and merchandising graduate with a deep passion for storytelling through garments and visuals. My work often draws inspiration from the cultural and historical landscape of South India. Whether it’s exploring traditional textiles, craftsmanship, or heritage architecture, I love weaving these elements into contemporary narratives that reflect both identity and place. Through my projects, I aim to celebrate South Indian culture and emphasis its presence in global and modern contexts. College London College of Fashion Course BA (Hons) Fashion Buying and Merchandising Graduation year 2025 "Rooted Drift: A Fluid Journey Between Tradition and Modernity" explores the interplay between cultural heritage and fluid contemporary identity, embodied through an Indo-Western chiffon dress created as part of my Final Major Project, developed within a 22 piece range plan that explored the relevance of Indo-Western fashion amongst Indian Gen Z women. While the silhouette of the garment is distinctly modern, the use of Ajrak block print and indigo tones anchors it firmly in Indian tradition. Much like the modern Indian woman, who, no matter where she goes or how seamlessly she adapts to new cultures and surroundings, always finds her way back to her roots, embracing the essence of home. Crafted from lightweight chiffon, chosen for its soft drape, translucency, and graceful movement. This fluidity was essential to evoke the idea of cultural drift, a sense of constant evolution and flow. The Ajrak print was hand-blocked onto the chiffon, allowing the delicate fabric to carry centuries-old craftsmanship with a contemporary twist. The result is a piece that balances heritage with innovation, structure with softness, and identity with expression. The dress was crafted from lightweight chiffon, chosen for its soft drape, translucency, and graceful movement.
