Private Ensemble originates from a night at Fold club...
Movement, light, and bodies in collective current crystallized the entire visual and emotional language of the work.
The storyline follows the arc of entering, dissolving into, and emerging from that space. It begins with the protective coat shielding the December cold, revealing flashes of hibiscus pink coloured light as I move through the threshold and merge into the crowd. Inside, the body becomes momentary and fractured: a yellow strobe light catches the shoulder blades in expansion, shadows stretch into impossible forms, and tension releases through motion. These sensations shaped the garments more than any static reference ever could. Outerwear remains structured to reflect the realities of queer safety, while the inner pieces respond to light, heat, and pressure. The rain on overheated skin, translated through titanium-oxide-treated leather, the longing silver to return, and the disorientation of entry all informed the final silhouettes. Through embodied practice, shifting the construction of the work from the mannequin onto my own moving body, the collection moves with the space that created it. Private Ensemble is forged in motion, built from the tension, distortion, and liberation of bodies moving through the night, and held within the private, queer, underground coded currents that make those spaces possible.
