# Project Description Collaborative project The London Breadcrumb Project Summary Final work 2 Contributors College London College of Communication Course MA User Experience Design Graduation year 2024 The London Breadcrumb Project is an urban navigation tool that recentres personal and community heritage in contemporary cities. Oral histories of long-term residents are transformed into soundscapes in combination with archival sound footage, while newcomers are provided a 'compass' that leads them blindly towards these designated locations. Inspired by community storymapping experiences such as Queering the Map and [murmur], the London Breadcrumb Project unflattens the emotional landscape of present-day cities and encourages a psychogeographical exploration of unfamiliar urban environments. Final work Our outcome was a digitally-augmented compass that would direct a user between assigned 'breadcrumbs'. The compass tries to break the pattern of interaction we have with modern navigation technologies by forcing a user to explore and work their way around their immediate area. The breadcrumbs link to soundscapes, a combination of recorded oral histories from local residents with archival sound from their local area. The stories span time periods, layering personal histories from across time onto existing space.
