Gallavant is a print menswear magazine and accompanying website that explores the complexities of classical and contemporary menswear aesthetics and their complimenting subcultures that are rooted in craftsmanship, heritage and slow fashion practices. From the Americana worn at rodeos to the 1930s golden age of menswear, the publication dives into the complex relationship of fashion, craftsmanship and historical and cultural nostalgia. This showcasing is not merely about showing an aesthetic but rather building an archival resource filled with oral history and features for those wanting to learn. Gallavant investigates the origins and politics behind subcultures, following it from its inception to its contemporary manifestation. Asking questions like “how has this subculture cemented itself as a permanent fixture in menswear?” and “who are the people behind the culture and how can they be celebrated?”
