# Project Description 'The Conscious Wave', 2025 by Sorcha Keeshan Sorcha Keeshan Summary Final work An artist all about the Ocean An artist all about the Ocean College Chelsea College of Arts Course BA (Hons) Fine Art Graduation year 2025 Surfaces mirror self. Water can explain how everything in the world is connected; it runs through your body and is essential for survival, a vitality, and without it, life as we know it would not exist. A mirror of the soul, a water's surface reflects life. Constantly changing, moving, and repeating in a rhythmic pattern, just like your heartbeat, it can teach us how life goes on, and flowing with change helps us adapt and move forward. A metaphorical boundary between worlds, above and below, water represents spiritual thresholds, emotional transitions, or moments of awakening and crossing between states of being. I wanted to bring the sea to people through film and audio, with waves surrounding and blurring the mind to all thoughts, creating a space of release, calmness, and contemplation. It is so important to look after our mental health, and the WWF's "A Prescription For Nature" campaign has brought to light our need to be with nature for just 10 minutes a day to improve our mental health. Meditation is being and going into yourself; it slows time, whether creating a release from everyday stresses for 5 minutes, or just learning to be present in the busyness of life. I believe in its power to transform our lives, and water embodies this change and movement. My film was filmed with my mum's camera she used when we were younger, holding memory just like water. This nostalgia and personal connection I know people can connect to, as by the sea we experience fond memories and it feels like time is non-existent. There is an idea of safety here. When at the water's surface or above it, you feel safe, as opposed to being submerged under it; you are in control. Like meditation, you are in control yet out of your body—this is how I feel by the ocean. Breathing with the waves, inhaling as the wave goes in and exhaling as another rolls to shore. Alongside the film, the publication, A Visual Ocean Meditation Tape, aids people in learning how to breathe with the waves and connect meditatively with the ocean. The film and audio explore how water's surfaces mirror self and the human experience, both metaphorically and spiritually, with regard to meditation and our mental health.
