HERD
“Herd” refers to the monotony of todays corporate overtone. The expectation to look the same, work the same, be the same is an unfortunate truth of most corporate workers. Much like a flock, or herd, of sheep, individuality is discouraged, with people being programmed to follow the CEO, or the shepherd.
This S/S collection explores the fine line between individuality and herd-mentality, creating pieces for the sheep that doesn’t quite fit in, wavering from the flock, yet staying close for protection. With garments inspired by both office wear and the shepherd themselves, the hope for power of individuality, this collection was designed to push the boundaries of what the corporate uniform is, while still being appropriate for a business-casual work environment.
An attempt to create clothing that is both wearable, to fit in, and allows you individuality, to stand out.
SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability and caring for the planet isn’t something that should only be considered in the final stages of the production process, i.e. sustainable fabric, it’s a careful consideration that needs to weave through the design process, from start to finish. Yet, it is also essential to allow ourselves grace, we are only human, and sometimes decisions have to be made that are not the most sustainable.
At sofya kvashenko, we lean heavily on digital tools throughout the design process, especially emphasizing the use of CLO3D in the pattern making and fitting process to reduce paper waste. This tool also allows us to test our pattern wastage/efficiency when it comes to layplans.
Where possible, we source deadstock materials, both fabric and hardware, as, as a small brand, our scale allows us to do so, thus taking away waste from bigger companies.
As aforementioned, we are not perfect, nor will we ever be, but small considerations throughout the process is what makes a difference.
