# Project Description Re-Birth Through Animalistic Shedding Sofia Allegue Piriz Summary Final work College School of Pre-Degree Studies Course UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design Graduation year 2025 My concept explores the idea of going through a re-birth or transitional period, reflected through the physical shedding of a snake. Understanding that letting go of a past self in order to improve, gain resilience and power. This project felt quite personal and it was a way for me to empower myself through the struggles i had gone through in the last two years. Loosing confidence and self-esteem, however regaining that through mental transformation and growth, discarding my old attitude to the world and how i perceive myself. I wanted my project to focus on the animalistic shedding of a snake, removing a layer of skin to reveal an improved self. As well as looking at reincarnation in various cultures and gaining knowledge in the religious view point of becoming a new version of oneself. Throughout this project there was experimentation with various textures and prints, focusing on snake print. Along with wider experimentation using my own skills to create an original texture with the use of fake press on nails, layered to replicate a snake like exterior. With my project i aim to empower whoever may feel that they need a redirection and new sense of self in order to progress to there full potential, realising that being in that state of mind is not attainable and can be altered, no matter how clouded ones mind may be. Final work Re-Birth Through Animalistic Shedding My project explores the removal of the skin to reveal a bettered and transitioned self, all through animalistic shedding, in particular the snake. Exploring sustainable ways to replicate snake skin using easily accessible techniques. I too explored research into reincarnation and various cultures and religions beliefs in the overall concept. Focusing on the Tibetan culture and there belief in the circle of life. Re-Birth Through Animalistic Shedding Here is an image that shows more of the final garment as a whole. I focused my research into Tibet and their cycle of life, then too looking into what the Tibetan monks wear and the draped fabric there wear as their traditional attire. I wanted to replicate that same draping through a modern sense of creating shorts, with a wrapped around waist to create dimension and a different silhouette. ReBirth Through Animalistic Shedding Here is a close up of my top piece that I made for the final outcome. It is a plastic fabric, cut to fit the model in a vest shape, then using fake acrylic nails to replicate elevated snake skin, melting them slightly to be able to lay them as flat on top of each other as possible. Research and process Research into circle of life in Tibet these are collages that I explored using different imagery from various cultures, history and religions to explore the different shapes I could create. I focused on tibet and how they see their circle of life. I did a circular cardboard drape on the body to experiment with shape and form. Research of snake features This collage shows an exploration into snake print and any imagery I researched into that linked well with the textures I wanted to convey. I experimented with weave and fine liner drawing to begin experimenting with different flat visual texture.
