College School of Pre-Degree Studies Course UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design Graduation year 2024 River Lantern Festival is a romantic festival in many Asian countries. People use river lamps to express missing their deceased relatives. However, the existing river lamps on the market are difficult to degrade and recycle, causing harm to both fish and rivers, so many places have canceled the festival. I hope to make this activity popular again by designing a river lamp that is friendly to underwater life. Therefore, the materials I finally chose to make the river lamp are all edible materials, of which gelatine is the most important ingredient. In order to make this product more interesting, my final product not only included the river lamp made by myself, but also designed DIY kits for customer to make lanterns by themselves. Final work Final outcome- Biodegradable rivers lanterns and DIY kits I used gelatine to make river lanterns that is biodegradable and harmless to underwater life. I also designed a DIY Kit that allows customers to make their own biodegradable river lanterns at home. Final outcome- Biodegradable rivers lanterns and DIY kits The electronic light is specially prepared for the show for safety reasons, and the actual use is to use real candles. DIY kit The kit includes an instruction manual, blue edible colouring, edible glue, coconut oil candles, thin strips with stars and a packet of gelatine. River lantern in the water The river lanterns can float on calm water for 5-6 hours, and the candle can burn for 20-30 minutes.
