Profile picture of Shuting Xu

Shuting Xu is an artist working across image-making. Her practice explores ambiguous, unfinished emotions, often rooted in personal fragments that resist clear expression. These feelings are projected onto non-human figures, especially parrots. They hover between expression and repetition, often echoing something already lost.

A parrot lies across the centre of the image. Below are rounded, pale shapes, some marked by red ties. Above, faded tree-like forms extend gently toward the top edge.

The work begins with the memory of a parrot—one that shared my rural childhood, vivid yet silent. Its body enters the image as a point of attention, loosely connected to a sense of being held, watched, and misplaced. Emotional states appear fragmented, suspended between animal presence and human memory. The painting considers how certain feelings do not disappear, but remain, carried by form and rhythm.
