# Project Description Like Mine Shareef Garcia Summary Final work I'm Shareef Garcia, a multi-disciplinary graphic designer whose practice focuses around storytelling and exploration of the mundane within the African-Caribbean community in London. the medium varies from piece to piece but I love using illustration, photography, publications object, symbol and logos. not being bound by any medium my curiosity drives my process led way of learning. College Central Saint Martins Course BA (Hons) Graphic Communication Design Graduation year 2025 Telling unique stories of Black hair in London through the boundary objects of combs. Objects hold unique stories depending on who has them and their context. From person to person, the same object can tell vastly different stories and create distinct connections. These are known as boundary objects. Six individuals who have varying hair types, styles, and textures, along with their combs that tell stories about their connections. These stories range from people who need combs purely for styling to those who keep them for sentimental value. Some combs even connect to specific locations. I tried to split the chapters by pairing people who had similar stories but had never met. There was something beautiful about discovering shared experiences across generations and throughout London. This project enables people to tell stories about their hair through something everyone has. With Black hair in England being othered and criticized frequently from personal experience, I feel it’s important to highlight the beauty in the everyday we black people go through. Final work The Book This book shows 6 individual interviews speaking about their connection with their combs. The Comb The comb is designed using elements from all 6 interviewees combs. I tried making a comb which isn't necessarily usable but more of an art piece to be carried around.
