Milk Mouth is an alternative food magazine that explores food as culture, politics, and critique beyond recipes and wellness trends. We publish work that unpacks how food intersects with power, fashion, art, and identity: from the rise of the aspirational Mediterranean lifestyle in fashion (and its push toward conservatism), to questions of discernment around fur, leather, and their vegan counterparts.
The magazine features critical conversations with chef Fadi Kattan of Akub London on cultural appropriation in “globally overlapped” regions, or Sam Bompas of Bompas & Parr on spectacle and food futures, alongside essays that interrogate Eurocentric frameworks in food, the colonial history of curry, and the politics of domestic chores.
As Milk Mouth grows, the vision is to push further into media: expanding into video, photography, and cross-disciplinary artistry, turning the magazine into a living platform where food becomes a way to critique systems, stage culture, and imagine alternatives.
Our first issue is on Taste, framing it as a way of holding discernment. Our next issue will explore Dining: from tablescaping and cross-cultural table etiquette, to the beloved trend of hosting friends, and the playful resurgence of supper clubs. We want to work with cross-disciplinary creatives who think sideways, and we’re reaching out to investors and bursary awarders who believe in pushing food culture beyond recipes.
