Bread is the cornerstone of society – “All revolutions begin with (the lack of) bread”. It was a fortunate coincidence that my period of studying at CSM overlapped with the rise of artisanal bakeries in the UK triggered by the global pandemic. I really enjoyed visiting those bakeries, sometimes travelling 800 miles in a day just to visit a bakery. I decided to initiate a project that represents my passion and appreciation for artisan pastries, by creating a series of artworks depicting my favourite pastries with acrylic gouache. I consider these pastries as a form of art that reflects bakers’ sense of value towards seasonality and cultural identity. I hope my work gives you a chance to find your favourite bakery!
