# Project Description Better late than never Rui Han Summary Final work College Camberwell College of Arts Course MA Fine Art: Photography Graduation year 2025 The work is based on the conversion of the English alphabet into a system of symbols consisting only of straight lines. Through a dictionary made up of English letters converted into straight lines, and an animation with only straight lines and light and shadow, the project explores the transformation and disappearance of symbols and their meanings in the course of historical development, as well as how to perceive unfamiliar symbols. Final work Better late than never I want to build a language system based on an existing writing system. In my understanding, almost all words are made up of different lines, so I want to deconstruct these words and try to build a writing system made up of a single line. In this system, the readability of the text is ignored, and instead, the medium of numbers is relied upon, and mathematical logic is used to take on the role of the text in conveying information. Thus blurring the boundaries between hieroglyphics and alphabetic writings, reflecting on the gradual mutation and extinction of writing in history. By making the familiar letters of the alphabet lose their readability step by step, by stripping them from the logical structure of their phonetic script and placing them in a logic of reading that is solely based on numbers, the viewer is made to rethink the meaning behind the words and how the same words have gradually become more complex and impenetrable over time, and how in the age of the explosion of information the text, the basic medium of the written word, is gradually becoming unfamiliar, even though they have always been the most familiar part of our lives.
