In the context of the growing number of foreign immigrants in London, the challenge of how people from different cultural backgrounds can coexist in the same city becomes increasingly significant. “Food Heterotopias” focuses on food market spaces in London, which are like the gateway to different heterotopias, connecting native cultural spaces and foreign cultural spaces. The project aims to explore how food in London market spaces can be used as a medium to facilitate intercultural communication between people and bring urban spaces closer together.

Final work

In historical Britain, a "patterer" was a type of street seller who used fast, entertaining speech (known as "patter") to attract customers. A "running patterer" might refer to a type of seller who moves around while selling, covering more ground to reach a larger audience.

This project incorporates the foodscape of the Peckham communities into a wearable spatial installation, focusing on drawing inspiration from the local vendors. And walks on the streets as a patterer, using the body as a flexible and movable space to guide people to experience the food market in Peckham.
