# Project Description Softness in the Frame Qi Chen Summary Final work My name is Chen Qi. I am currently studying at UAL. I specialize in combining 3D techniques with illustration to create digital artworks, character designs, and narratives exploring contemporary visual culture. I’m particularly interested in the visual language of cuteness, and how it connects to identity, social media, and emotional expression among Gen Z audiences. My name is Chen Qi. College Camberwell College of Arts Course MA Illustration Graduation year 2025 My research approach was defined by emotional and sensory enquiry, rather than textual or narrative starting points. I designed and hosted a questionnaire workshop to collect firsthand feedback about softness and emotional response. I also conducted material replacement experiments using real textures mapped onto guinea pig outlines. These methods allowed me to test emotional reactions outside of traditional visual language. My research extended into AR tools, where I created interactive face filters as an alternative way to embody cuteness. These personally defined, audience-facing methods helped shape a form of illustration that is experience-based and critical in nature.
