# Project Description Portraits of a City (2025) Ochieng Joshua Wera Summary Final work Joshua Wera is a filmmaker with a BA in Film Studies and an upcoming master’s degree in Documentary Film. He has worked on drama productions for Netflix and Apple TV, building a versatile skill set in writing, directing, shooting, and editing. His work focuses on shared human experiences, that is, how we connect, struggle, and navigate the future. He is particularly interested in questions of fairness in leadership and the changing nature of democracy. Joshua is also passionate about cross-disciplinary collaboration. He aims to blend film with other art forms, such as murals, sculpture, and installation, to create impactful, socially resonant stories. Director Joshua Wera returns to Nairobi, one year after the #RejectFinanceBill 2024 protests to uncover why public outrage has fallen silent. Teaming up with muralist Victor to spark dialogue through street art, he instead confronts public hesitation, and a political mood defined largely by caution. He soon learns that silence isn’t emptiness at all, but a powerful cry hidden between the unspoken lines.
