Nelson Corrales Jubelin

Summary

Final work

Nelson Corrales Jubelin is an interdisciplinary art director and emerging ethicist whose practice interrogates systems of class, control, and collective identity through a critical and empathetic lens. Rooted in activism and speculative methodologies, his work challenges cultural hegemony by reimagining dominant structures—from hostile architecture to artificial intelligence—as sites for ethical intervention and human reorientation.

Drawing from both visual culture and critical theory, Nelson’s recent projects include a conceptual investigation into the implications of Google DeepMind, and a socially engaged response to the weaponisation of public space through hostile design. His contributions to et al. magazine reflect a commitment to collective thought and posthumanist ethics, blending visual narrative with political inquiry.

At the intersection of art direction, theory, and activism, Nelson's practice invites critical engagement with contemporary systems of power, while proposing new, inclusive frameworks for creative and social agency.

Graduation year 2025

Rooted in ethical inquiry, my practice merges creative direction with visual storytelling to confront structures of injustice. et al is a collaborative, ongoing project exploring collective consciousness through art, aiming to expose and reimagine power systems via curated visual language. Each work within et al acts as an ethical provocation—inviting reflection on complicity, identity, and systemic constructs. Guided by the belief that aesthetics can serve as activism, my role as an ethicist-in-practice is to construct visual worlds that challenge normalized hierarchies and create space for radical empathy, collectivity, and unlearning within contemporary cultural discourse.

Final work

et al ..(.)..

et al is a publication that challenges the prevailing elitist structures of fashion and art by centering themes of collective consciousness, posthumanist perspectives, and the subversion of capitalist cultural hegemony. Rooted in an interdisciplinary approach, the publication bridges fashion imagery with sociology, philosophy, and anthropology to critique and reconstruct the visual economy of wealth, class, and identity. It does not reject high fashion’s aesthetic language but recontextualizes it as a tool for critique, turning its historically exclusive visual codes into mechanisms for discourse and accessibility.

The foundation of et al lies in the belief that contemporary artistic production must move beyond individualistic and market-driven narratives toward forms of visual storytelling that engage with broader social structures. Through commissioned works from artists, writers, and photographers, the publication serves as an evolving dialogue between artistic expression and political critique, resisting the commodification of culture while remaining visually compelling. By integrating conceptual and documentary approaches, it creates a space where artistic radicalism coexists with aesthetic sophistication, forming an accessible yet subversive medium for both industry insiders and emerging creatives.
