Inspired by the antique chairs I found comfort in as a child, this project explores the beauty of decay whilst focusing on longevity. The wooden frame incorporates textures inspired by decay found in trees such as infestation, loose bark, dry rot and cracking, hand carved from basswood and stained with natural dyes. A layered velvet cushion designed to wear over time and inspired by insects that feed on decaying matter. Lightweight and with additional storage, this project is aimed at younger collectors and nature lovers seeking a blend of antique aesthetics and modern craftsmanship for their homes and patios.

Final work

A small velvet upholstered stool, with a wooden hand carved base made to look like decaying wood. The stool is placed in nature infront of a dead log
