The Women Before Me

My work reacts to vintage articles that have an intriguing point of interest through a modern lens. It is through all kinds of spontaneous play, including serendipitous drapings and experimental pattern cutting that I reimagine classic silhouettes to relight a timeless feel. Alongside my archive of vintage garments, my silhouettes are hugely informed by LCF’s vogue archive which stays glued to my hip. My grandmother’s stories give context for the existence of design choices, for example, being a single mum in the 70’s in Ireland plastered floral print over my latest collection. Thinking of the working women in my life, comfort is always a huge factor of our dress, therefore, my collection offers jersey pieces for more full on days where you just need a basic tank top to feel confident for the day. With that being said, the women I am dressing values craftsmanship from structural engineering to the finishing hand stitches that go into a garment; the things she indulges in are done right if they are going to be done at all.

My final collection draws on the ‘Women Be-

fore Me’ to define the identity of the woman

I design for. I use my English grandmother’s

articles to capture the 70’s independance

of my Irish grandmother who was a single

mother in catholic and misogynistic Ireland.

Vintage fashions help elevate classical sil-

houettes whilst thoughtfullness and human

touch contributes to longevity and quality.
