Status is no longer displayed through material wealth but through active social presence: mentoring, organising, building, and co-creating. “Reputation wallets” store the record of one’s contributions from skill-sharing and conflict mediation to innovation and environmental restoration, all validated through a decentralised trust network. Here, women thrive not because barriers were removed, but because the value itself was redefined. Women, especially, flourish in this speculative future. Their historically unpaid contributions now translate directly to financial legitimacy, enabling them to fund, lead, and scale ventures without permission from patriarchal gatekeepers. Final work Design Speculation of an inclusive financial future Here, A mixed reality installation is found in most communities, resembling a cross between a traditional library, a high-tech museum, and a sacred space. Physical artefacts are displayed alongside augmented reality interfaces that activate when approached. A space serving as a social vault where women enter to acquire social skills, which reflects your values. Picture walking into a circular building with soaring curved walls made of a warm, translucent material that shifts between deep indigo and golden hues as people move through the space. The architecture echoes traditional Yoruba compounds - open, communal, with multiple levels connected by flowing ramps rather than harsh stairs. Research and process Methodology The evolution of women in Lagos, examined through a historical timeline, can provide valuable insights into the key events, inventions, and drivers that have shaped the industry (Moffitt, 2022). Also, the futures cone and identified as a model used to portray alternative futures (Voros, 2017). It is therefore adopted here to four main classes of the future: Possible, Plausible, Probable, and Preferred (Luculano, 2017). To further explore different future possibilities by identifying and combining key drivers and uncertainties, a scenario matrix was adopted to create scenario narratives. To explore how a preferred future might be realised, backcasting—a strategic foresight method that starts by defining a desirable future outcome and then works backwards to identify the key actions and decisions required to achieve it was employed.
