College School of Pre-Degree Studies Course UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design Graduation year 2025 This project presents a light-hearted narrative exploring the humour and chaos of following gut instinct in everyday life. It visualises the inner dialogue between my gut and my mind—often at odds—as they navigate decisions together. Inspired by the idea that the gut and brain are our "two minds," closely connected through both psychology and philosophy, the work delves into the blurred line between intuition and bodily sensation. I often rely on my gut feeling when making small decisions or navigating relationships. But with IBS, it’s hard to tell whether that sickening stomach twist is intuition or just my condition acting up. By placing myself in the shoes of a teenage girl trying to figure life out, I explore what it means to “know thyself,” as Plato once said—to understand our nature, desires, and limitations in order to make good choices. A major inspiration was The Cloud Project by Zoe Papadopoulou and Cathrine Kramer, where ice cream particles are blasted into the sky, creating a sensory snowstorm. That whimsical concept inspired me to imagine a belly that, when pressed, releases stress and instinctual thoughts in bubble form—a playful take on how decisions might physically burst from within.
