# Project Description Auto-Ethnographic Armour Lorcan McWilliams Summary Final work College London College of Fashion Course BA (Hons) Costume for Performance Graduation year 2025 For my final project, I made two adapted plate armour suits to represent my internalised conflict with societal expectations of masculinity and femininity, using symbolic elements from my childhood and adolescence. The 'Nemesis” costume is embedded with references to conventional masculinity, such as football/rugby boot studs and barbershop aesthetics. These reflect the pressures I felt to conform to stereotypical male roles of physical/contact masculine sport and going to an exclusively masculine space, like the barbers. In contrast, the ‘Hero’ costume uses vibrant colours and smooth textures, referencing the outlets that let me explore the gender spectrum without prejudice, such as video games, television shows and toys that shaped my identity. For this showcase, I will focus on the 'Nemesis' character, while also including the design development of both characters, as they were created simultaneously. The design process for each character was closely interlinked, as they were intentionally developed to contrast with each other in silhouette, colour, texture, and overall design.
