# Project Description Decoding the blurs of the digital age. Lily Grundy Summary Final work Textile designer specialising in sustainable print design, my practice is rooted in research-driven innovation, with a focus on natural dyeing and zero-waste processes. Through hands-on experimentation, I work primarily with natural dyes and fabrics, exploring eco-friendly alternatives. College Central Saint Martins Course BA (Hons) Textile Design Graduation year 2025 My collection contrasts the complexity of digital life with the simplicity and calm of nature, using photographic and digital imagery into natural screen prints of blurred, abstracted faceless figures. These were from a photoshoot of several neurodiverse individuals from BA courses at CSM. These pieces aim to recentre and create a sense of escapism from the overstimulating online and real worlds of letters, numbers, and words. I aimed to develop skin-safe textiles using only natural colours and fibres that merge aesthetics with functionality. I created artificial and synthetic-looking print pastes and dyes, producing strong, bright colours. An overarching goal of the project was in creating awareness of invisible disabilities to encourage others seeking support. The faceless figures in my final outcomes represent the complex layers of dyslexia/neurodiversity, aiming to spark a conversation. Final work In response to the climate and biodiversity emergency, I actively worked to reduce my environmental impact through material innovation and responsible print design. I focused only on traditional natural dye techniques to eliminate toxic chemicals and minimise the water pollution. I created pigments from biowaste and plants, using an unique approach in creating bright colours and subverting the norm of the usual muted shades The process is very tactile and hands-on, reconnecting us to nature as digitalisation has grown. from knowing the ingredients and where they are sourced to enhancing sensory awareness in creating recipes that are intuitive, less harmful and less toxic to both me and the consumers. My process followed a zero-waste ethos I was repurposing only biodegradable fabrics such as wool, silk, linen, and cotton from Tooting Scrap Store, ensuring my materials were ethically sourced. I have included some digital outcomes using my naturally dyed screen-printed designs on CLO3D to explore fashion through a new lens. I have utilised the metaverse to digitally wear the garment, which appears to resemble real-life photographs, creating a new and alternative world. View Gallery View Gallery View Gallery Photography and digital manipulation plays a key role in distorting and abstracting my imagery. I have explored the fusion of nature and technology through fluid and layered textiles that blend colour and texture to engage the senses. By using tools to mainipulate my images, I created an ombré, blurry, and futuristic print. I layered colours to develop a meditative, immersive aesthetic. I aimed to change perception of the industries stereotypes of natural dye only creating dull tones. My main goal was to create artificial and synthetic looking colours through my own natural print paste recipes for screen printing onto organic matter. Research and process pH modifiers Acidic modifiers: citric acid. Alkaline modifiers: soda & ash. Metallic salt modifiers, such as iron, (sappenwood, gardenia flower, weld, Onion skins, Avocado pips, Red cabbage, turtle beans, Indigo, Madder, and Chlorophyllin) Share this project My collection contrasts the complexity of digital life with the simplicity and calm of nature, using photographic and digital imagery into natural screen prints of blurred, abstracted faceless figures.
