Reality is an Illusion.

I’m born and raised in London, which definitely has been input into my work: obscure yet practical. I lean towards gender, in menswear, and explore boundaries in the body. When it comes to my design practice, I love experimenting off-body textile, creating my own ‘ingredients’, to fully visualise and create final outcomes. I will move onto study Fashion Design Technology: Menswear at London College of Fashion next year.

To explore the illusion, which is our reality, stemming from Plato’s theories on our world, from his book ‘The Republic’. My main themes will investigated Plato’s ‘Simile of the Cave’, an analogy to explain how people reject there is perception and how the real world is shadowing into ours. Truth is an important part of the story and is symbolised throughout. In the cave a fire cast shadows onto walls, which the prisoners believe to be real objects, it is only when one prisoner is let out, he sees the Sun as the true source of light which illuminates objects, not only causes shadows; the sun is the symbol of truth. My project’s focus is on the prisoner’s stuck in the cave, trapped in a fake reality. Much like all of us, trapped to whatever reality is put in front of us, which we cannot escape from.
