Unveiling Elements

Lili Schullin

Summary

Final work

Lili is an Austrian photographer driven by connection, authenticity, and the magnetic pull of character. Rooted in movement and shaped by her background as a dancer, her practice explores the expressive power of the body - its subtle gestures, tensions, and emotionally-rich language.

At the heart of her work lies a desire to create a space where people feel truly at ease - comfortable, seen, and free to express themselves as they are. At its core, it’s about turning a shoot into a shared moment - one that honours the subject and the energy they bring, where performance feels like presence, to which she responds. She watches for the realness, the breath between the poses, the flicker of emotion. That’s where the image lives. The unveiled moments are charged with emotional truth and narrative depth, revealing glimpses of vulnerability, drama, and trust. Authenticity, for her, is the natural result of trusting the moment.

Throughout her Commercial Photography studies at London College of Communication, Lili has built a portfolio rooted in dynamic storytelling - from sportswear campaigns, lifestyle and fashion editorials to performance-driven portraiture and commercial images. Lili’s work focuses on how the human form interacts with its surroundings - creating layered textures that feel raw yet refined and composed. Her visual language combines a stripped-back, cinematic aesthetic with urban textures, faded tones, and the timeless clarity of black-and-white.

Blending conceptual thinking with brand-conscious awareness, she crafts images that feel alive and unfiltered. Whether photographing dancers, athletes, actors, or models, Lili approaches each shoot with curiosity, collaboration, and sensitivity to rhythm and emotion - creating layered studies of character, movement, and connection that linger far beyond the frame.

Graduation year 2025

In this fashion editorial Lili traces her journey of self-discovery after moving to London, a city she felt instinctively drawn to and now calls home. Structured around the four natural elements (earth, water, fire, and air) the work mirrors emotional transformation. From the weight of expectation to release, rebellion and self-definition. Lili explores what it means to discover authenticity through a truer, more independent self - free from familial and societal expectations - inviting viewers to reflect on their own sense of belonging and the places that shape who they become.

Research and process

Test Shoot - Element Earth

As part of my Final Major Project fashion editorial, this test shoot explores the element of Earth as a foundation of texture, grounding, and raw connection. Through natural light, organic fabrics, and immersive outdoor settings, the imagery captures an unrefined elegance - reflecting how fashion can merge seamlessly with the environment to evoke stability, growth, and quiet strength. This shoot served as an initial exploration into how clothing interacts with the natural world, establishing a visual and thematic base for the elemental series.

Test Shoot - Element Air

This test shoot continues the development of my Final Major Project fashion editorial by embodying the element of Air . It was a chance to explore the route of self-portraiture rather than relying on external models, allowing for a more personal and intuitive exploration of expression. Focused on movement, breath, and stillness, the minimalist styling and soft blue tones create a sense of lightness and openness. I was also exploring the option of shooting in studio versus outside, testing how controlled environments could influence the tone and energy of the imagery. The portraits investigate how fashion can communicate emotion and atmosphere through simplicity and space, capturing the ethereal, weightless essence of air within the wider elemental narrative.
