# Project Description "Not the Only one on the Page" Khadijah Heath-Bailey Summary Final work Hello!! My name is Khadijah; im an multimedia image maker working in digital illustration and 3D. College London College of Fashion Course BA (Hons) Fashion Imaging and Illustration Graduation year 2025 ‘Not the only one on the page’ is a concept introduction to an animated tv series about four black british young people with different lifestyles navigating their lives together living in east london. I wanted to create something light-hearted and fun based on research from people I know as well as my own lived experiences. The title 'Not the Only One on the page' refers to the experience of being the only black person in a room or space within this story about friendship, finding cultured community and not being alone. With a main inspiration being comics, the comic book 'page' is the room. Looking at Black representation in animation and comic book media, the world has become more diverse with their depictions of Black people; although in cartoons it is usually limited to the “one Black friend” trope. There is now more media, particularly animation, of a mostly Black cast telling Black stories; however, these usually only ever take place in America, mainly New York. Black culture in the UK is very different from that of America and African countries, as we are aware of different social and societal structures through the knowledge of our direct heritage, experience with our standing in other cultures, and the blending of our heritage cultures with UK culture. There is an abundance of Black British UK film and TV media , but not much in animation or comic books. I wanted to research what Black people from or living in the UK wanted to see in animation, looking at their personal life experiences and what animations inspire them. Resulting in a final product of a short yet complex and eye-catching animation, telling a story about a group of Black British characters. Referencing cartoon and anime intro videos that I've seen growing up. I also wanted to include illustrations of the characters with a strong fashion element, mixing current streetwear and 70s aesthetics. I wanted to show the development of skills I've gained over the past three years utilising 3D, animation, photography and digital illustration methods. Through this project, I produced a range of work, including a 3D animation, 3D images in a comic panel style, three illustrations and two posters.
