# Project Description Kinetic Shadows Katie Forsyth Summary Final work I am a Scottish born, London based Fashion Designer aiming to use fashion as a means of creating art. My brand's commitment to gender-neutral design reflects the diversity of those who enjoy creativity. By blending sculptural elements with ready-to-wear practicality, the goal is to create garments that challenge traditional norms and invite exploration. Each collection serves as a conversation between fashion and art, where garments tell stories and inspire emotional reactions. College London College of Fashion Course BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Menswear Graduation year 2025 At House of Syth, we are proud to unveil our debut collection, “Kinetic Shadows,” which embodies a bold vision of wearable art set within a dystopian future. Drawing visual and conceptual inspiration from Italian Futurist artists and H.R. Giger’s iconic artwork for the Alien trilogy, this aesthetic serves as a framework for envisioning a world with my alien-like muses rising up from fascist flames. House of Syth’s beliefs diverge greatly from the fascist political positioning of the Italian Futurists; the collection acts as a reversal, as a dark response to the dystopian setting, portraying both anger and beauty as resistance, embodying these emotions within sculptural attire and wearable art. The garments reflect a sleek, modern quality, exploring how speed and movement affect the body and garments. This notion is inspired by an excerpt of Boccioni’s manifesto “Technical Manifesto of Futurist Sculpture” (1912), where he expressed ideas of sculpting the air around the body as an extension of the body itself. The collection investigates the relationship between protest, sculpture, dance, movement, and fashion. The collection captures the essence of speed and dynamic energy, visualized as if frozen in time. By incorporating principles from the Futurist and Dynamist movements, we explore the intersection of fashion, art, and technology. Utilizing sculptural pattern cutting, unconventional materials, and silhouette-building construction techniques, we aim to push the boundaries of the garments through laser-cut prints, heat-mouldable foam, and 3D printing. Our design process incorporates cutting-edge technologies to create unique shapes that enhance movement, while themes of repetition reflect the dynamism of speed. While the collection predominantly features a palette of blacks and greys, intentional uses of unconventional fashion materials such as heat-mouldable foam, complex textiles, and gridded rubber provide textural interest and unexpected twists. This concept will be developed through sampling, emphasizing the significance of motion within the collection. Tina Lechner’s avant-garde photography will shape our vision, exploring the fusion of body and art. Our collection aims to blend the perceived limitations of fashion and sculpture, creating wearable art that captures stills of frozen movement and echoes the Futurists’ belief in the synergy between humanity and technology. With a focus on curvature, abstraction, and innovative silhouettes, our collection channels influence from artists like Sonia Biacchi and Maria Blaisse. Designed for an art-minded, luxury, high-fashion audience, “Kinetic Shadows” includes unusual features and complex pieces for future-facing individuals who value innovation and artistic expression. Out with seasonality, Kinetic Shadows is viewed as a series of art—it sits beyond a traditional collection. While avant-garde, we will also create ready-to-wear options to ensure accessibility and impact, presenting a gender-neutral and hyper-modern aesthetic that resonates with a diverse audience, akin to successful designers such as Richard Malone, Caroline Hu, Anna Kiki, Cecilie Bahnsen, Onrush, and Yenesai. The collection is more aligned with protest art, standing in opposition to Futurist ideologies which are permeating into our very culture and fashion landscape.
