I'm interested in developing interactive experiences that tackle social issues in various context... College London College of Communication Course BA (Hons) Information and Interface Design Graduation year 2021 Nothing to Hide is a short educational game about weaponized digital advertisements. The player takes on a role of a political manipulator employed to help the Conservative party in a fictional country to win a presidential election. To achieve that, they will have to use several strategies of weaponizing digital advertisements and exploiting the voters’ data. I aim to showcase with this game the severity of the problem that mass surveillance and behaviour prediction and manipulation practices have created, and how it can be evidenced in much more than just intrusive commercial product advertisements. Therefore, the game aims at inoculating the players against both data extraction practices and political propaganda online. Research and process Prototyping First prototype for Nothing to Hide was a pen and paper version that let me understand how players will interact with the game. Next, I created a Telegram chatbot to test the story. Finally, I used the Twine game engine for the final outcome. User interviews After completing the final version of the game, I have conducted 7 interviews with individuals within the target audience and from several different backgrounds. The game proved to be a good converation starter around the topic of privacy online, as well as politics. I am very happy that the game has proven to be engaging, appealing and interesting to the subjects I have tested it on.
