Never before has the Global Ready Meals Market been so high. For students especially, meal deals and microwave dinners have taken precedence over hand-made meal prep. The aim of this project is to remind young adults about the various benefits of homemade cooking, whether it be financial, social or medical. My work utilises a range of media, both analogue and digital, both moving and static, to create various campaigns aimed at the student demographic to promote weekly meal preparation.

Meal Deal-t With! - A Poster Campaign
My first outcome for this project is a campaign that aims to encourage students to prepare their own meals weekly instead of buying food to go. I am inspired by the Illustrative, vibrant packaging in North Korean Graphic Design, as well as the bold colors and typefaces seen in 'Secret Menu' - a food magazine developed by DoorDash aiming to promote local, individually-owned businesses.
I wanted to bring the same exciting design that we see in modern eateries into the context of the 'mundane', cheap meals that we see in supermarkets. This way, I hope to generate excitement for meal prep amongst students, as well as promote the money one could save by ditching store-bought lunches.
Nourish your Body, Nourish your Mind! - An Animated Short by Julianne Llamas
This paper stop-motion animation aims to playfully highlight the health benefits that come with home cooking. It is a short film aimed at young people, more specifically students, who struggle with academic burnout. This idea came about after researching young people's relationships with cooking. After conducting a survey with 49 of my friends (who all fall into this demographic), most people had answers along the line of not having enough time in their schedule and being unable to balance meal prep and schoolwork. Others said general laziness, and some answered that they were simply inexperienced in the kitchen.
My aim is to generate excitement to be in the kitchen despite the pressures of school, and encourage students to treat cooking as an enjoyable break rather than a chore.
What Makes the Perfect Meal? - A Short Film by Julianne Llamas
This short video, designed for social media with its 16:9 format, is a promotion of home-cooked meals. My goal was to show people that it doesn't matter how well made a meal is, how expensive the ingredients are or what cuisine it originates from. The thing that makes a perfect meal is the soul put into it.
My audience is young people, students in particular. I feel like so many young people see fast-paced, perfectly prepared food videos on TikTok and Instagram and save them without ever coming back to them again. This video is intended to be a statement against that. By using the beloved lasagne as a visual metaphor, I want to encourage people to see cooking as more of an enjoyment than a chore. This way, hopefully the people watching will be motivated to prepare their own lunches rather than buying the same thing from the local supermarket every day.
