THE IRONY OF GOD MEETING THE DEVIL

Julia (Gigi) Zarzycka

I am a writer and a multimedia artist with experience in filmmaking, fashion photography and animation. My work usually focuses on the themes of love and belonging presented through an existentialist lens. Greatly influenced by the 1970s New York City’s art scene, I aim to translate complex ideas and problems into contemporary narratives with raw and untamed sensitivity.

A short fashion film exploring the nature of morality through religious symbolism. The film uses the archetypes of God and Devil to talk about guilt and grief by questioning the biblical narration of 'good versus evil'. It instead aims to reflect on the weight of humans' sinful nature and its inevitability.

THE IRONY OF GOD MEETING THE DEVIL BUT NEITHER OF THEM KNOWS WHO IS WHOM

This is an experimental representation of Catholic guilt. Coming from Poland, a primarily Catholic country, I have been taught a lot of shame and fear surrounding religion and only in my adulthood have I realised its effect on my everyday life. This film allowed me to translate those considerations into art and provides a poetic escape from the potential pain in faith.
