The turmoils of this life and the roles which she must play, I wonder who my mother would have become without these inescapable shackles.

Shapeless Ephemerality is an introspective meditation on the tension between two souls, and the roles we inherit or are forced to portray. Drawing on the existential weight and emotional dissonance within Milan Kundera’s The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1984) , the work navigates this fragile border between subjectivity and reality, perception and truth . Inspired by the multiversal chaos and emotional density of Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), I ponder at the infinite possibilities of alter egos and symbiotic destinies. These abstract concepts are encapsulated via the interaction between colour, form, light, shadow and surface- challenging the viewer’s reliance on visual certainty.

Philosophically grounded in Laślo Moholy-Nagy’s concept of the 'immaterial' and the Taoist dialectic of ‘有’ (being) and ‘无’ (non-being), Shapeless Ephemerality becomes a space for contemplating dualities—of presence and absence, self and other, memory and forgetting.

The work does not seek to resolve these tensions but to dwell within them . Viewers are invited to reflect on their own layered identities and the delicate veil between lightness and weight, the physical and the immaterial.
