This project originated from the everyday experiences of my mother. I expanded this intimate starting point into a sociocultural investigation of invisible care labour and the multiple domestic identities embodied by women. To realise this, I adopted a hybrid studio-based methodology that weaves together personal narrative, kinetic installations, static displays, and publication-based media.
Rooted at the intersection of domestic space, gender theory, and feminist design discourse, the project’s central strategy lies in reinterpreting the sewing machine—a household object long associated with women’s domestic labour. By transforming it into a narrative device, I aim to make visible the often-overlooked structures of emotional labour. This is supported by an archival-style publication, designed to enhance and clarify the metaphorical dimensions of the work.
